Due to the establishment of the quarantine, caused by the global coronavirus pandemic. It is important to talk about the various games that we can play with our little one at home to prevent them from getting bored during the days of quarantine. Not being able to go outside should not be an impediment to our child's fun , which is why we bring you some recommendations and activities that you can do with your child at home.

First things first, you must take into account your child's tastes when carrying out any activity. Get to know them and adapt the activities to your own taste . This way you will keep your attention and not get bored. All the games that we are going to tell you about can easily be adapted to the characteristics of the child . Here I share some games with which you can encourage your child with autism in areas such as communication, social relationships and also encourage their imagination.

  • Imitation games

They are games where we will put emphasis on movements ( hits, claps ), with vocal sounds or with objects... Imitation games are a great tool to fully engage your child's interests and keep them entertained, almost all children love this type of games.

  • Cause-effect games

A cause-effect game could be seen in toys in which pressing a button produces a sound or appears a light. However, games such as puzzles can also be used. This last type of game helps our child with autism work on something very important, such as frustration tolerance.

  • Exchange games for children with autism

During these days of quarantine, we can adapt the house a little so that our children can play inside it more easily . We must think this through since they will be home every day during this time. So it is advisable to transform the house into an environment in which they can move more easily . We can play games like ball, hoops, etc. If your child is not interested in these types of games, you can look for alternatives. Play to hide the ball in a certain place in the home, teach it or mold it so that it can pass the ball to you. At first, these types of games will not be easy for your child, but little by little as they become routine , they will see how they will spend hours playing.

  • sensory games

These types of games are those that involve the use of materials whose sensations may be pleasant for your child . This includes materials such as plasticine, crayons, finger paints, watercolors and many others. We are sure that you will love the games that include these materials and that you will be able to have a very pleasant time with them.

  • Musical activities

Music will always be a great ally for children with autism. Your little one will be able to dance, jump, move and gesture to the rhythm of the music . Furthermore, although games that involve music are usually individual, we can also make them something shared. It should be remembered that music therapy is widely used for the treatment of autism throughout the world. Some tips for playing music-related games.

Dancing or jumping to the rhythm of music around the house is a great activity , we recommend that you hold your child's hand and help guide their respective movements.

Learn songs and sing them together. In this way we can help our child to achieve ease in understanding the respective lyrics of each song .

Listening to relaxing music is an excellent exercise that helps calm down and is always necessary. Lie down next to your child while you both listen to relaxing music (I recommend any instrumental music.

Little ones at home can also take advantage of the use of the VICON Method , which is a structured and intensive learning program for children with a visual and musical profile that begins from the essential levels of early development to the last and most complex stages of communication. This therapeutic tool has video support , always understood as a complementary resource to all therapeutic work that involves children with special educational needs.

  • Activities on the computer:

The computer can also be very useful to keep our child with autism busy. Drawing programs such as Paint or Notebook are recommended . On the Internet we can find countless educational games that can keep our children busy while at the same time educating themselves. You can also read electronic stories or encourage him to write down what he has done during the day.

We recommend that you make a plan to carry out these games and activities with your child. We must establish a duration time for the activity and always try to vary it . People with autism must learn to make their choices and not always choose the same thing, in this way we prevent them from falling into obsessions. Use paper, a blackboard, photos, drawings, pictograms, written words ... this way you can show your child visually the possibilities that exist and let him choose for himself.

We hope that our advice has been useful to you and you can spend a pleasant time with your child. Remember that recreation is of utmost importance for children with autism and that we must keep them busy at this time, where they will spend the entire day at home and we must try to ensure that they do not remain in a state of idleness.
