To understand the ABA methodology, it is necessary to know the essential protocols for the effective development of this intervention model.

Known and proven through decades 1 of rigorous research.

Below we bring you closer and briefly describe the four pillars of the ABA protocol for your better knowledge:

  1. Applied Behavior Analysis: Base the intervention on the basic principles of behavior analysis.
  2. High level of intensity per week: An average of 20 to 40 hours of intervention per week.
  3. Training for parents and immediate environment: To be able to apply the guidelines and generalize their effectiveness in a “24/7” structure (24 hours, 7 days a week).
  4. Frequent supervision and data-based decision making: Highly qualified supervision, as well as data recording and decision making based on data comparison.

At the same time, ABA interventions must be supported by seven variables to achieve better results from the beginning, these being:

  1. Early start: Diagnosis and start of intervention should be carried out at as early an age as possible.
  2. Intensive program: Studies have shown and replicated that a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 40 hours per week are required.
  3. Parent training: Training the family environment, as well as other close figures, is essential to maintain and accelerate the achievement of skills.
  4. Individualized: Each intervention must be adapted to each person, from its beginning (Initial evaluation), as well as during its development (Periodic evaluations).
  5. Behaviorally dynamic approach: Procedures must be periodically adapted based on recorded data.
  6. Globality: The intervention must be global and cover the different areas of development.
  7. Schooling: An essential aspect as long as the prerequisite skills for it are developed.

In any case, developing and maintaining these variables throughout the intervention will require a therapeutic team (between 2 to 4 therapists) that must receive continuous training, both theoretical and practical. In this way, we can adapt at every moment to the evolution of the intervention. As well as daily coordination between its members to carry out the set objectives, both in the short, medium and long term. fruits of an initial and functional evaluation, carried out before, during and at the end of the intervention.
