Children entertained, parents calmer… some ideas to do at home

Television shows, movies, board games, cooking as a family, an impromptu camp, everything can work to keep our little ones entertained while confinement lasts. It is time to take care of the virus and also the consequences that having free time and not knowing what to do with it can generate. The ingenuity of parents is being put to the test in these weeks, since in Spain, among other measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, there is the suspension of classes.

One of the main issues amid all the paranoia and fear that exists right now in many homes is rooted in how leisure time is managed , which is why we advise families to follow certain routines , especially with children. children: have them have breakfast at a certain time , then study a little, have some fun, eat, take a nap and then they can do some craft or physical activity, have a snack, play, help with the kitchen and have dinner. When looking for activities to do at home, the most important thing is to see what materials you have and create a space specially designated for the game.

You can use sheets to create a tent and cardboard to make a castle. The first thing is to look for those available materials and then the little ones' imagination will do the rest . In situations like these, classic games begin to emerge , those we played when we were little. There are many games which are generally not played due to lack of time. When the little ones go to school and come home, they start doing other things. This is a good opportunity to learn how to play card games or even dominoes to keep our little ones entertained. We must also delimit a play space, so we avoid the typical scoldings to our children “don't break anything”, “be careful with that”.

Some activities that we can do with them are to keep the little ones entertained:

  • Pick up a board game: Board games are excellent for times like these.
  • Pillow fights: All children enjoy pillow fights, they are fun and help them release energy.
  • Create a choreography: Dancing is always fun, create a choreography together
  • Reading stories: Something advisable and that also encourages a love of reading in children.
  • Treasure hunt: A classic that we can apply these days, children always enjoy this game.
  • Do yoga: Teaching yoga to your little one is an excellent option to contribute to their relaxation and have a pleasant time.
  • Draw: Encourage your children's creativity through drawing.

Also, it should be noted that some physical game must be adapted for these situations. We must find a way for them to continue developing their abilities or skills at home . You can do aiming challenges, holing games and other activities that are adaptable to any type of material that is available inside the house . Obviously you cannot make a soccer field inside the house, but you can take any element that resembles a ball and play in that space you have. It is a way of experiencing play within our home , the ability to understand what materials you have in your house and transform it into a space perfectly suited to playing with your little ones.

We must remember that as parents we must be calm in the face of this whole situation to prevent our children from worrying . Children need calm and self-possessed parents in these difficult times. We have many things we can do with our little ones to keep them entertained. Children need calm, loving and affectionate parents who are able to remain calm in such a complicated situation. It is the only way we have to prevent this situation from affecting our children, it is our task to keep them busy and guarantee their peace of mind.
