When should I go to the Neuropediatrician?

A Neuropediatrician is a pediatrician who specializes in treating specific pathologies of the nervous system of newborns, infants, children and adolescents . Neuropediatrics is the application of physiotherapy treatment in pediatric patients who have physical alterations due to neurological pathologies, in order to provide them with greater autonomy and personal independence, facilitate better integration into the social environment in which they operate and obtain a better quality of life . The basic objective is that each child, through treatment, achieves the best possible psychomotor development. Always paying attention to your needs and those of your family.

Unlike Neurology focused on adults, Neuropediatrics pays special attention to neurodevelopment and the interference caused by the disease, neurological or not. Neuropediatricians care for a wide range of diseases with different degrees of complexity.

It is always advisable to go to a Neuropediatrician when our child has conditions such as:

  • Attention Deficit: It is one of the most frequent problems that affect learning in children and make their relationship with others difficult. It is important to treat it, since if not, it can completely affect the child's life . Furthermore, in schools they often do not know about the problem or simply confuse it with other things.

  • Dyslexia: A problem that affects reading and writing, affecting learning, which makes it difficult to understand subjects and causes problems in the child's school environment .

  • Hyperactivity: The difficulty of some children in controlling their movement can cause them many problems at school . Often being punished for it. If left undetected, hyperactivity can cause various problems for your child.

  • Behavioral disorders: Some disorders such as “oppositional defiant disorder” can cause serious problems for our child. They can become violent, easily irritated , have strong problems controlling their impulsiveness and have a very low tolerance for frustrations, often being quite aggressive.

  • Delayed development: In these cases there is a slower evolution but it is carried out in the correct order. In most cases there is a simple situation that has an easy solution. Early attention is usually enough to solve them. The most common is usually language delay.
  • Developmental disorder: In these cases there are more important problems that limit the child's development. There can be a different severity in each case from some mild to severe cases of autism. The cause is usually of genetic origin but in many cases it cannot be detected exactly. The main difficulty is detecting it as soon as possible.

If your child has any of these behaviors, it is advisable that you take him to a neuropediatrician as soon as possible.
